Osofo Kyiri Abosom, the founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) and head of the Osofo Kyiri Abosom Ministries, has stirred public discussion after revealing that he may temporarily set aside his party’s activities if President John Dramani Mahama continues to demonstrate effective leadership. His comments, captured in an interview shared on X on November 19, 2025, highlighted how impressed he is with the president’s recent governance approach.

He noted that Mahama’s current performance gives him confidence in the direction the country is heading. Based on that, he said he would be prepared to pause GUM’s operations during election season and throw his full weight behind the National Democratic Congress if the president sustains this progress.

Beyond pledging support, he pushed for broader constitutional considerations, suggesting that the nation should explore reforms that could allow Mahama to serve beyond two terms. He expressed hope that the president maintains the energy and capacity to continue leading should such a possibility ever arise.

Kyiri Abosom also opened up about his long-running involvement in Ghana’s political landscape. He recalled starting out as a member of the NDC during the Rawlings era before switching allegiance to the New Patriotic Party under former President Kufuor. According to him, he became an active supporter of the NPP and even campaigned for Nana Akufo-Addo, but eventually turned away from the party when he became dissatisfied with its performance. His decision later led to the formation of his own political movement, GUM.
