The wife of John Odartey Lamptey, the man who recently went viral for violently assaulting her at their Ofankor home, has revealed that she had repeatedly reported his abusive behavior to the police over several years without any action being taken. Despite providing evidence of his violence, authorities consistently dismissed her complaints as domestic disputes.

According to the woman, Lamptey accused her of infidelity during one of the earlier incidents and inflicted severe physical and sexual abuse on her. Following the assault, she filed a report with the Tesano Police Station, but no intervention occurred. Fearing for her safety, she temporarily left the house and stayed with a friend.

The situation escalated when Lamptey threatened her friend, prompting the victim to leave Accra with borrowed money, relocating to her hometown in the Volta Region. Her return to Accra, prompted by concerns over one of their children falling ill, ended in another violent episode that gained national attention after a video showing her being publicly beaten went viral.

The woman confirmed that her husband has a history of violent behavior, including pulling her hair and leaving bruises, and expressed concern over the custody of their two children, aged five and two, who are currently under Lamptey’s control. She is appealing to the public for assistance in regaining custody.

Following the viral incident, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested John Odartey Lamptey and two of his siblings on November 17, 2025, at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality. The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection condemned the abuse, urging law enforcement to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure justice. The Ministry also called on eyewitnesses to assist the authorities with relevant information.

This case has reignited discussions on the protection of victims of domestic violence and the role of law enforcement in preventing repeated abuse.
