Democracy Hub has publicly rejected claims made by one of its community mobilisers, Wendell Yeboah, who alleged during a live radio broadcast that three regional ministers were involved in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.
During the interview, Yeboah, identified as Head of Mobilisation for Democracy Hub, named Eastern Regional Minister Rita Awatey, Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson, and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene as participants in unlawful mining operations. His statements, however, appeared to suggest that the organisation endorsed these allegations.
In a statement released on November 19, 2025, Democracy Hub described the claims as “baseless, irresponsible, and spurious,” emphasizing that they lacked any factual basis and did not reflect the organisation’s principles or stance.
The group, which has a history of pursuing legal action against false claims about its work, stressed that it takes such misrepresentations seriously. As a result, Yeboah has been suspended from representing the organisation in all media-related activities, with additional disciplinary steps under consideration.
Democracy Hub also indicated it would engage with the ministers named to reinforce collaborative efforts against illegal mining, reiterating its commitment to tackling galamsey and promoting accountability in the sector.
