A man captured in a widely circulated video physically assaulting a woman has been ordered into police custody after appearing before a Magistrate Court assigned to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU). The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service confirmed that the suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, also known as Nii Adjei, was arraigned on November 19, 2025, on a charge of Physical Assault under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).

The case extends beyond the main suspect. Two individuals linked to the incident—Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey—have also been detained. Investigators say the pair attempted to confront a female tenant they believed had captured and shared the viral footage, an act that has now resulted in conspiracy-related charges. Both face allegations of planning to cause harm under Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

According to the CID, all three suspects have been remanded and will remain in custody until their next court appearance on December 3, 2025. Authorities note that their detention aims to prevent any interference with the ongoing investigation.

Police indicate that one crucial element of the case remains unresolved: locating the woman who appeared in the viral video. Investigators are yet to establish contact with her and have renewed their call for anyone who knows her whereabouts to assist the nearest police station. Officers say finding the victim is essential to strengthen the case and ensure she receives appropriate support.

The viral video, which triggered widespread public outrage, has intensified national discussions on domestic violence and the protection of vulnerable people within communities. With all three suspects now in custody, the next court date is expected to determine the progression of the case while police continue efforts to track down the victim.
