Residents of Twifo Tenewaaso can finally breathe easier after a man identified as Yaw, also known as Joseph, was handed a one-year jail term with hard labour for stealing a goat. His conviction came after a dramatic sequence of events that began when he was caught in the act and then tried to manoeuvre his way out of the situation by claiming he had powerful connections who could secure his freedom.

Yaw’s arrest drew significant attention within the community, especially when word spread that he had attempted to evade punishment by calling on an associate from Cape Coast to intervene on his behalf. The plan quickly fell apart when the supposed ally failed to influence the process, leaving Yaw to face the consequences of his actions before the law.

The case was heard at the Twifu Praso District Court, where His Honour Festus Fovi Nukunu presided. After reviewing the circumstances surrounding the theft and the subsequent effort to avoid accountability, the court concluded that a custodial sentence was necessary to reinforce the community’s growing demand for deterrence.

For many locals, the ruling brings a sense of relief. Goat theft has long troubled residents in parts of the district, and Yaw’s sentencing is being seen as a decisive step toward curbing such crimes. With the court’s judgement now delivered, the message from Twifu Praso is clear: attempts to exploit influence or connections will not shield offenders from the law.
