An Accra High Court has instructed the legal team representing Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, to formally submit a request if they require additional material from State prosecutors. The directive forms part of the court’s steps toward organising the Case Management Conference.

The judges further asked the defence to outline the individuals they plan to present as witnesses, including their locations, in the event that the prosecution establishes a prima facie case.

During the hearing, Senior State Attorney Priscilla Lartey indicated that the State had already placed its disclosure documents before the court and was prepared to proceed. However, defence lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi reminded the court that prosecutors had earlier hinted at filing more material.

According to him, the defence intends to depend on records that do not appear in the State’s disclosures, prompting their plan to file a motion compelling the prosecution to release those items.

Boasiako—Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party and a director of Akonta Mining Company Limited—is currently facing charges linked to an alleged involvement in illegal mining activities at Samreboi in the Western Region. A second director, Kwame Antwi, who has not been located, is accused of assigning mineral rights without the necessary authorisation. The company itself has also been listed as an accused entity.

Chairman Wontumi has denied the allegations and is out on bail worth GH₵15 million, supported by three sureties, granted by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay. The matter is expected to return to court on December 8, 2025.
