A fresh wave of tension has hit the New Patriotic Party after Samuel Atta Akyea, the former MP for Akim Abuakwa South, openly defended his recent warning about choosing a presidential candidate who might embarrass the country on the international stage—remarks many interpreted as a swipe at Kennedy Agyapong.

During a conversation on Adom FM, which was later uploaded to Facebook on November 27, 2025, Atta Akyea refused to retract the statement that sparked uproar among supporters of the Assin Central legislator. Instead, he insisted that those lashing out at him are fully aware that his concerns reflect well-documented behaviour.

Atta Akyea explained that he and Kennedy Agyapong attended Adisadel College together and that the politician’s well-known temperament is hardly a secret. According to him, once Ken sets his mind on something, he acts on it immediately—even in the full glare of cameras—and no adviser can rein him in. He pointed out that numerous recordings and public incidents already exist as evidence of Ken’s confrontational style, adding that these incidents are not inventions or exaggerations but actions Agyapong has taken himself.

The former Works and Housing Minister further claimed that Agyapong’s nature cannot be concealed, no matter how polished the campaign messaging may appear. He used a vivid metaphor to argue that certain tendencies resurface regardless of attempts to suppress them. He suggested that some of Ken’s past statements are resurfacing, causing panic within sections of the party, and hinted that more revelations could follow.

Atta Akyea’s remarks have reignited debate within the NPP’s grassroots and leadership circles as the party’s flagbearer race continues to intensify. His insistence that nothing he said was fabricated—and that every criticism has a traceable public record—has only fueled the political storm surrounding Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign.
