A tense moment unfolded in Parliament when the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, challenged Bantama’s representative, Francis Asenso-Boakye, over his stance on the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway. The minister said the legislator has been working against the project despite its direct relevance to people within his own constituency.
During Thursday’s proceedings on November 27, 2025, Dr. Ato Forson informed the House that Asenso-Boakye has described the expressway initiative as an unnecessary burden on the country. The minister found the position puzzling, especially considering that the road network is intended to boost the economic corridor running through Kumasi.
He also noted that the Bantama MP did more than criticise the project publicly. According to the minister, the legislator contacted President John Dramani Mahama to discourage him from advancing the expressway plan. The minister stressed that the Accra–Kumasi route is central to national mobility and economic expansion, making opposition from an affected constituency’s representative difficult for him to understand.
Ato Forson further stated that the expressway is envisioned as a strategic upgrade, designed to expand access between the nation’s two major cities. He emphasised that resistance from a lawmaker whose constituents stand to benefit undermines broader development efforts.
