During a spirited encounter with New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in Manhyia South, Nana Agyenim Boateng — widely called Gyataba — made a forceful case for Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum as the party’s best hope for reclaiming political power in 2028.

Gyataba, who is campaigning alongside the Bosomtwe MP, argued that the party should not be looking for a mere face to front its ticket but a leader capable of governing from day one. He insisted that Dr Adutwum fits that mould and represents the kind of authority the NPP needs after its 2024 loss.

According to him, Dr Adutwum’s temperament, depth of thought and even the way he carries himself evoke memories of former President John Agyekum Kufuor — a comparison he believes will resonate strongly with party members seeking a return to stable, development-driven leadership. Gyataba maintained that this resemblance positions the former Education Minister as the candidate most likely to galvanise national support.

Addressing delegates, he framed the 2028 election as a moment of reckoning for the NPP, stressing that credibility and competence must outweigh symbolism when choosing a flagbearer. He pointed to Dr Adutwum’s stewardship of STEM reforms and the expansion of technical and vocational education as proof of a leader capable of translating vision into results.

The gathering in Manhyia South formed part of Dr Adutwum’s wider campaign swing through the Ashanti Region, where his team has been intensifying outreach. Gyataba urged delegates to consolidate support behind the only aspirant from the region, arguing that a united Ashanti front could provide the momentum needed to return the party to government in 2028.

His remarks mirror earlier efforts to rally grassroots enthusiasm. Gyataba has repeatedly portrayed Dr Adutwum as the NPP’s strongest path to a decisive victory, highlighting his discipline, integrity, and long-term developmental agenda as qualities the party urgently needs after internal setbacks and electoral disappointment.

Dr Adutwum has already announced his intention to contest the January 31, 2026 flagbearer election, promising a clean, issues-based campaign built on his achievements in the education sector. His declaration has been met with growing support from local party structures, especially within the Ashanti Region, where he enjoys strong visibility.

With other heavyweight contenders expected to join the race, the contest is shaping up to be competitive. Yet Gyataba’s repeated emphasis on having a “President-ready” candidate — not just a flagship figure — signals the narrative his team hopes will shape delegate thinking as the NPP edges closer to its internal polls.

As Dr Adutwum continues his tour, delegates and party strategists alike will be watching to see whether this appeal for a Kufuor-style leader gains broader traction and influences the direction of the 2028 campaign.
