Police swoop nets 13 suspects in Senya Beraku crackdown

The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in an intelligence-led operation carried out on December 17, 2025, across three locations in the Senya Beraku enclave of the Central Region.

According to a police press release, the coordinated operation targeted criminal hideouts as part of efforts to clamp down on drug-related and other criminal activities in the area.

The police team first moved to Kukwado, a coastal community, where six suspects were arrested. During the operation, officers retrieved substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other related items.

The team then proceeded to a yellow house near a cemetery within the enclave, where four suspects, including a female, were arrested. Items retrieved from the location included dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, locally brewed gin known as akpeteshie, a 32-inch television set and various brands of cigarettes.

At the third location, Awiaso, police arrested three suspects, including a female. Exhibits found at the site included dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a toy gun, shisha, local gin and a game pot. The hideouts used by the suspects were subsequently set on fire by the police to prevent further criminal use.

The 13 suspects arrested were identified as Michael Essel, 23, Frederick Koranteng, 23, James Essel, 24, Jones Koranteng, 20, Daniel Essibu, 30, Kofi Abbiw, 28, Kofi Essibu, 57, Klotey Poree, 26, Bismark Sarbeng, 26, Kojo Otoo, 24, Thomas Quartey, 22, Gladys Jackson, 19, and Florence Adenue, 25.

The police said all the suspects, together with the retrieved exhibits, are currently in custody and assisting with investigations as efforts continue to rid the area of criminal activities.
