Former Member of Parliament for Adenta, Kojo Adu Asare, has clarified recent comments he made on Asempa FM, stating that he would like to marry Odo Broni, the widow of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, stressing that his remarks were made in jest and never meant to be taken seriously.
According to him, the comments were intended to inject humour into the media space and to counter what he described as unfair and negative narratives circulating about Odo Broni on social media.
“I have never met Odo Broni anywhere before. Today is the first time I am meeting her. It is not about love matters at all,” he stated.
He emphasised that Odo Broni is currently undergoing her widowhood rites and deserves peace and privacy during this difficult period.
“She is performing her widowhood rites, so let us allow her to be. I have my own family, and all I said were jokes. I was only creating humour in the media space,” he added.
Kojo Adu Asare explained that his comments were motivated by sympathy after he saw an old photograph of Odo Broni with Daddy Lumba circulating online, which attracted negative and hurtful comments from some social media users.
“I saw her tender-age picture with Daddy Lumba that was circulating online, and people were saying all kinds of things about her. It pushed me to act. I said to myself, this lady doesn’t deserve this kind of backlash,” he explained.
He said he intended to divert attention from the negativity and help neutralise the damaging narratives being pushed against the widow.
“So I did what I did to neutralise that negative story about her. She doesn’t deserve the backlash she is receiving. Odo Broni is going through a lot, a traumatic experience. She is a young woman who has lost her husband,” he noted.
The former MP appealed to the public to show empathy and restraint, urging Ghanaians to respect the emotional and cultural process Odo Broni is currently going through.
“Anyone who has lost a husband understands what she is going through. I will urge people to allow her to perform her widowhood rites in peace,” he said.
The visit, which also saw Shatta Michy joining in the donation exercise, was aimed at showing support and solidarity with Odo Broni and the bereaved family as they mourn the late music icon, Daddy Lumba, while also extending goodwill during the Christmas season.
