Assistant coach of Bechem United, Mallam Yahaya, has expressed strong confidence that the club will avoid relegation despite currently sitting in the bottom three of the league table.
According to him, Bechem United endured a difficult start to the season, and correcting the early setbacks requires hard work, sacrifice, and patience.
However, he assured supporters that the team is gradually turning the corner and will soon climb to its rightful position on the table.
“We started the season very poorly, and fixing those mistakes takes a lot of work and commitment,” he said. “But we are confident that very soon we will move up the table. We urge our supporters to remain patient and continue supporting us to achieve our ambition.”
The Bechem-based club, which performed impressively over the past two seasons, has found itself battling relegation this campaign. Some analysts have attributed their struggles to the massive exodus of the playing squad during the off-season. However, Mallam Yahaya believes the team can change its fortunes by making home advantage count.
Speaking to the club’s official social media handle, the assistant coach identified poor finishing as the team’s main challenge.
“Our biggest problem has been our inability to be clinical in front of goal,” he admitted. “We are working hard on that so we can convert our chances and win more matches.”
He added that the team is determined to secure maximum points in their home games.
“We are determined to win our home matches and take all three points. Whichever team comes here, our expectation is to stay focused, perform well, and collect the points,” he stated.
Mallam Yahaya also revealed that the players are unhappy with their current league position and are fully motivated to change the narrative.
He pointed out a worrying tendency for the team to relax after taking a narrow lead, a mindset he says is being addressed.
“I have noticed that once we score one or two goals, the players relax. Football does not work that way. Until the final whistle, you have no right to relax,” he explained. “Scoring one goal is not enough, and we are working hard to change that mentality.”
The former Ghana international further disclosed that the technical team is building a stronger winning mentality and will no longer tolerate complacency once the team goes ahead in games.
Mallam Yahaya also welcomed the return of two players from international duty with the Black Galaxies, stressing the importance of competition within the squad.
“We want healthy competition in the team. No player should feel indispensable,” he said. “We are building all 30 registered players so that when one is not available, another can step in without the team struggling. That is what makes a successful team.”
Bechem United will be hoping these adjustments translate into improved results as they fight to move clear of the relegation zone.
