Oleana said writing allows children to express what they are thinking

Educationist and proprietress of Rising Child Academy, Oleana Wilson, has underscored the importance of nurturing children’s writing and communication skills from an early age, describing them as key to unlocking creativity and building confidence.

Speaking at the school’s end-of-year dinner on Sunday December 21, 2025,, Ms Wilson explained that the academy’s initiative is designed to encourage children to develop the habit of writing as they grow, enabling them to express their thoughts, ideas and imaginations in ways that can inspire other children.

“Our goal is to help children explore what is inside them and put their ideas into writing for others to read and learn from,” she said.

“Writing allows children to express what they are thinking and brings out the best in them,” she added.

She called on parents to take children’s writing development seriously, stressing that technology should be used positively to support learning rather than distract from it.

According to her, parents can play a critical role by guiding their children, correcting their work where necessary, and consistently encouraging improvement.

“When a child is developing the habit of writing, encouragement is very important. With support from parents and teachers, every child can grow in this area,” she noted.

Wilson also highlighted complementary programmes such as the Young Public Speakers competition, which she said is aimed at boosting children’s confidence, improving public speaking skills, and strengthening their ability to organise ideas through writing.

A parent and guardian of one of the young book writers at the school, praised the initiative, saying it has helped her child become more confident and expressive.

“My child now enjoys writing and speaking in public. I have seen a big improvement in confidence and creativity since joining Rising Child Academy,” she said.
