Five killed in road crash at Ayensudo Meyinda

Five persons lost their lives in a fatal road traffic accident at Ayensudo Meyinda on the Cape Coast–Takoradi highway on Sunday.

Five others sustained various injuries and were sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment. 

Three others escaped unhurt.

The incident caused a traffic jam but that was restored after the rescue crew cleared debris from the roadway.

According to the Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu the office received a distress call at 9:26 am about the accident, after which a rescue team from the Komenda Fire Station was promptly dispatched to the scene.

He indicated that upon arrival, the crew discovered five lifeless and partially mutilated bodies trapped in a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number GW-9873-22, which had veered off the road into a nearby bush.

He said the rescue team immediately secured the scene and successfully extricated the deceased persons, who were subsequently handed over to the Ghana Police Service.

He said eyewitness accounts indicated that the Toyota Hiace, which was traveling from Accra towards Takoradi, attempted to overtake another vehicle, lost control, and collided with the side of a DAF truck with registration number GG-3227-25, traveling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.

He urged road users especially drivers to be extra careful in this festive period to prevent such fatalities
