AngloGold Obuasi Mine has exceeded a record production of 250,000 ounces of gold this year.

The historic feat was achieved last week, the Managing Director, Samuel Pobee, made this known to Otumfuo during a courtesy visit to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on December 19, 2025.

“We exceeded production of 250,000 ounces of gold this week, the highest since the inception of the mine.”

He credited the blessings of the Asantehene for this.

“The intervention of Otumfuo ensured a smooth year for us this year. We are extremely grateful to His Majesty.”

Further rendering accounts on its activities, he said safety will be on top of the priority list of the company next year.

“Compared to last year, there was not much difference in safety. But the Mine did well if we juxtapose the ratio of the number of people we employed and the safety. We will prioritise safety next year. Our workforce has increased from 5, 100 to about 5,800.”

Another ongoing project, he said, was to allot a portion of the mine to residents as part of measures to deal with illegal mining and artisanal small-scale mining.

He highlighted incidents that have been derailing this, but expressed commitment to the initiative.

Meanwhile, he reported that about 70% of the over 700 employees in the company as of November 2025 were locals from Obuasi.

This, he said, was held under its revised local employment participation initiative launched in March this year.

He also outlined the tarring of major roads in Obuasi to reduce traffic, the construction of a robotic centre, and the awarding of scholarships to KNUST Obuasi Campus students.

Mr Pobee reported that some residents were planning to attack the mine next year in memory of a similar incident that occurred in January 2025.

He said the relevant security agencies had been informed as a proactive measure.

Otumfuo expressed satisfaction with the operations of the company as he reiterated his conviction that the Obuasi Mine will not collapse.

“They should continue to unite to do the work. I have already told them to pursue the operations of the mine as their personal business. Let me know anything that comes up and how I can help.”
