The Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has said that the government is firmly committed to enhancing educational development across Ghana.
Representing President John Dramani Mahama at the 65th Annual National Conference and Fund-Raising Ceremony of the Ghana Muslim Mission, Mubarak, who is also the MP for Asawase, explained that robust educational infrastructure is essential for fostering a knowledgeable and skilled populace capable of driving the nation’s future.
The event, which brought together community leaders, educators, and stakeholders, served as a crucial platform for discussing the intersection of education, social responsibility, and national development.
Aligning with the conference’s theme, “A Mercy To The Orphan, Uplifting The Future Of Our Nation,” the Minister underscored the significance of educational development as a cornerstone for national progress and community cohesion, highlighting the urgent need to support vulnerable populations through educational initiatives.
Reflecting on the peaceful conduct of last year’s elections, Muntaka Mubarak acknowledged that while there were minor incidents, the overall atmosphere was one of harmony and cooperation.
He asserted that this context of stability is vital for any meaningful progress in educational and social reforms, reassuring attendees that the government remains dedicated to fulfilling all promises made by President Mahama, particularly those related to improving educational facilities and resources.
One of the most significant announcements during the conference was the introduction of several initiatives designed to enhance the educational experience for students nationwide.
A notable initiative was the distribution of 1,500 new chairs to the Islamic SHS aimed at improving student comfort and creating conducive learning environments.
“This initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure that every child has access to adequate educational facilities, which is crucial for their academic success,” he said.
Moreover, Muntaka Mubarak unveiled ambitious plans for the construction of a two-storey girls’ dormitory and a state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 2,000.
“These projects are particularly significant for the Islamic Senior High School, which currently accommodates over 5,000 students. By investing in modern infrastructure, the government aims not only to enhance academic performance but also to provide a supportive environment that nurtures personal growth and development among students,” he added.
In his address, the Minister also recognised the vital role that Islamic missions play in fostering national unity and social cohesion.
He emphasised that these missions are instrumental in promoting education and providing community support, which are essential for nurturing future leaders who can contribute positively to society.
He called for ongoing collaboration among educators, community leaders, and government officials to enhance educational opportunities and create robust support systems for Ghana’s youth.
Reiterating the importance of education in shaping the nation’s future, Muntaka Mubarak stressed that the youth are the backbone of Ghana’s development.
He urged all sectors of society—government, private sector, civil society, and religious organisations—to unite in empowering the next generation through education. By working together, he believes that stakeholders can create an environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive academically and personally.
