National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) President, Samson Deen, has received a dose of confidence in his leadership from President John Dramani Mahama following his re-appointment to the Governing Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
Following Cabinet approval of nominees in alignment with Section 4 of the Sports Act, 2016 (Act 934), which mandates the establishment of a Governing Board to oversee the operations of the NSA and ensure efficiency, a 15-member body, with Dr Fred Awaah as Chairman, was sworn into office last Monday at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation in Accra.
The board is expected to steer the authority through a period of reform aimed at restoring confidence, improving governance and delivering tangible outcomes across Ghana’s sports ecosystem.
“This board is not here merely to satisfy a legal requirement. It is here to lead structural change and reposition the NSA as a performance-based institution that commands respect, delivers results and responds to the realities of a dynamic global sports industry,” the Sports Minister, Kofi Iddie Adam, who swore in the new board, said.
Samson Deen, who was appointed to the previous NSA Board by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, makes history as the first to serve consecutive terms under different governments.
A strong advocate for youth empowerment, inclusion and sports integration into national development policy, Mr Deen is primed to help shape strategic direction, approve policies and budgets, ensure accountability, protect the public interest, and oversee management in line with national priorities.
“Sport remains one of the most powerful tools for shaping the future of our youth and building a united, confident nation. My reappointment to the NSA Board is a call to deeper service — to ensure that every young Ghanaian, regardless of background or ability, can dream, compete and succeed through sport,” he said.
