A fatal road crash on Christmas Eve has claimed the lives of four people at Twifo Ntafrewaso on the Cape Coast–Twifo Praso stretch, casting a shadow over the festive period in the Central Region.
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, said the Twifo Praso Fire Station received an emergency call around 4:48 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, alerting officials to a serious vehicular accident in the area. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the team discovered that a Hyundai Getz, with registration number GW 7715-25 and operating as a commercial vehicle, had veered off the road and crashed into a tree in a nearby bush.
The vehicle was travelling from Twifo Mampong towards Twifo Praso at the time of the accident.
DOII Hudu explained that three occupants were trapped in the mangled vehicle and had to be extricated by fire service personnel.
They were rushed to a health facility but were pronounced dead on arrival. He added that a fourth victim had earlier been rescued by civilians and sent to the Twifo Praso Government Hospital, where the person was also confirmed dead.
Eyewitness accounts gathered at the scene suggested that the driver was overspeeding while attempting to negotiate a curve on the wet road, causing the vehicle to lose control.
According to the Fire Service, the impact left the car completely wrecked.
The Fire Service has urged motorists to slow down, remain alert, and strictly observe road safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
