The Oti Region Passport Application Centre has been officially commissioned, marking a major step toward improving access to passport services for residents of the region and surrounding areas.
The commissioning of the facility brings relief to applicants who previously had to endure over six hours of travel to Accra to complete biometric registration, followed by another trip to collect their passports. With the new centre now operational, residents can access passport services closer to home, saving time, cost, and inconvenience.
The initiative forms part of Government’s broader commitment to ensuring equitable access to public services across all 16 regions of Ghana, in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s National Reset Agenda.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, it was announced that the Oti Region centre will offer several enhanced services, including a 30 per cent reduction in processing time, e-tracking of applications, courier delivery options, and special expedited same-day services. Applicants can also expect passport delivery within 15 days, significantly improving turnaround times.
Given Oti Region’s status as a border region, Government has also introduced heightened security measures to safeguard the integrity of Ghanaian passports. Authorities emphasized that strict checks will be enforced to ensure that no foreign national fraudulently acquires a Ghanaian passport. In this regard, a crucial meeting was held with regional security chiefs to secure their full cooperation and strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
The successful establishment of the centre was made possible through the collective support of traditional authorities, the Regional Minister, Members of Parliament, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other key partners.
The commissioning of the Oti Region Passport Application Centre underscores Government’s resolve to decentralize essential services and promote inclusion.
