Two persons among a group of demonstrators, demonstrating against an alleged handing over of a gangway illegal mining (galamsey) site to some Chinese nationals, have allegedly been shot following a confrontation between police and residents of Abosso near Tarkwa in the Western Region.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025, when police personnel attempted to disperse a protest by residents.

The Western Central Regional Police Command in Tarkwa says it is yet to officially confirm the deaths; however, a Deputy Director of NADMO for the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality, Mr. Louis Afful, has confirmed the incident.
