‎Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghanaians to remain committed to the values of justice, accountability, and national unity as the country commemorated the 44th anniversary of the 31st December Revolution.

‎Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, she joined party members and citizens at the event, which was held under the theme “Consolidating the Reset Agenda: Reflections on the Gains of the 31st December Revolution.”

‎The vice president stated that the revolution, led by Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, was born out of a determination to confront injustice, restore accountability, and uphold the dignity of ordinary Ghanaians.

‎She noted that the movement reshaped Ghana’s political consciousness and laid the foundation for the revolutionary tradition that later gave rise to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

‎Opoku-Agyemang paid tribute not only to prominent figures but also to the everyday citizens, soldiers, and rank-and-file members whose sacrifices shaped the nation’s course.

Commending participants in the parade, particularly the children, she stressed the importance of protecting and passing down Ghana’s values to future generations.

‎“The Revolution was not about individuals; it was about a national effort to build a just, caring, and responsible society. That duty still rests with us today,” she said.

‎As Ghana enters a new year, the vice president called for honest reflections on both blessings and shortcomings, urging citizens to stay grounded in truth and keep the nation’s interests at the forefront.
