The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man accused of plotting a robbery against a gold miner who transports gold from Manso Abrense to Kumasi for sale.

The suspect, Stephen Kwakye, was arrested on December 30, 2025, after police received intelligence indicating that he and other persons were planning to attack the miner while in transit near Manso Nsiana in the Ashanti Region.

According to a police statement, investigations showed that Kwakye played a leading role in the plan by tracking the miner’s movements and coordinating with accomplices to carry out the attack during the journey to Kumasi.

The statement said police officers placed the suspects under surveillance after picking up information about the planned robbery. Kwakye was arrested when he went to collect his share of the proceeds after being informed by his accomplices that the robbery had been successful.

The suspect is in police custody, assisting with investigations. Police said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the other persons involved so they can be taken through the legal process.
