President John Dramani Mahama expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for giving him a second term

President John Dramani Mahama has said that he aims to rule Ghana in such a manner that the country will make irreversible gains.

President Mahama, who expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for giving him a second term, promised that governance and economic gains under his government cannot be reversed by any succeeding government.

“This is why I’ve decided to make this second mandate so graciously granted to me by Ghanaians count. I’ve pledged to raise our economy and governance to a level that no succeeding government can reverse,” he said at the opening of the 2026 New Year School organised by the University of Ghana on Tuesday, January 6.

Mahama pointed out that he must succeed to prove to the people of Ghana and beyond that democracy works.

“In a region where democracy is backsliding, we must demonstrate that democracy works and that our people can have faith in their leaders to uphold their interests and create opportunities for national prosperity,” he said.

The president further assured that his government will continue to manage Ghana’s economy prudently, saying, “I can assure Ghanaians also that we will not relax the current fiscal discipline and efficient management of the economy, even in the election year of 2028.”
