The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate allegations of a plot to rig the party’s presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

This follows a petition purported to have been authored and signed by Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a member of the campaign team of Ken Ohene Agyapong, one of the contestants vying for the flagbearer slot of the party and addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC).

The request for the investigation by the CID was contained in a letter dated January 6, 2025, from the party’s Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) and signed by its Secretary, William Yamoah.

In the said petition, Mr Tetteh made allegations, including claims of purported schemes calculated to unlawfully influence and compromise the outcome of the forthcoming NPP presidential primary.

It said the petitioner further alleged the existence of a series of covert engagements involving officials of some aspirants and certain persons alleged to be officials of the EC.

“In addition to this petition, we have also intercepted two videos, which are practically making the same allegations,” the letter said.

“We are referring these three matters to you (CID) to investigate to confirm the veracity or otherwise of the allegations therein contain,” it said.

“Given the seriousness of these allegations and their direct bearing on the credibility, transparency, and integrity of the electoral process and its eventual outcome, the matter raises issues of significant institutional and public concern,” it added.

“Accordingly, I have been directed by the Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee to respectfully request your esteemed office to institute an immediate, thorough, and impartial investigation into the allegations contained in the petition,” the letter stated.

“Where the allegations are found to be unsubstantiated, we urge that the appropriate and strictest sanctions be applied against the petitioner in accordance with law and established procedures. Conversely, should any of the allegations be substantiated, we request that decisive and lawful action be taken against all individuals found culpable,” it concluded.
