Construction works have begun on health and education facilities in the South Tongu Constituency following sod-cutting ceremonies performed in four communities in the district.
Spearheaded by the government, the projects cover Agorgbe, Lolito/Nyinuito, Lakpo and Aglorkpovia in the South Tongu District in the Volta Region.
The facilities comprise two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Agorgbe to serve Lolito and Nyinuito, a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Lakpo and a two-unit Kindergarten classroom block with ancillary facilities at Aglorkpovia.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for South Tongu, Maxwell Kwame Lukutor and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Victoria Dzeklo, accompanied the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, to perform the sod-cutting ceremonies.
They were joined by the district coordinating director, the district directors of Health and Education, and other technical officers of the South Tongu District Assembly.
Commendation, donation
Addressing chiefs and residents at the various communities, the Volta Regional Minister commended the MP for his dedication and performance in the constituency.
Mr Gunu said the MP’s impact was one that many communities in the district had not experienced before.
The regional minister encouraged residents to remain hopeful and confident in the John Mahama-led NDC administration.
He assured them of sustained development in the constituency.
At the sod-cutting ceremony at Lakpo, Mr Gunu spoke about the community’s water challenges. He made a personal donation of GH¢20,000 to the community’s water fund, which currently stands at about GH¢200,000.
The regional minister commended the community for its foresight and initiative in mobilising funds for the water project.
Commitment, Safeguard projects
Mr Lukutor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving access to healthcare and providing quality education at the community level.
“These projects are clear evidence of the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and education in South Tongu,” he said.
He commended President John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for prioritising development in South Tongu.
The MP appealed to residents to safeguard the projects and support the regional minister and the government’s development agenda.
He cautioned against unnecessary land litigation and the theft of construction materials.
Mr Lukutor said adequate funds had been secured for the projects and assured the communities that the government was committed to completing all the projects within six months.
Collaboration
The DCE said the government had delivered a strong performance in South Tongu.
Ms Dzeklo expressed excitement about the current policies guiding the use of the District Assemblies Common Fund.
The DCE said there was an excellent working relationship between her office and the MP as the collaboration continued to deliver development projects across the constituency.
