Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has argued that the size of the current government cannot be assessed solely by the number of ministers appointed.

According to him, several presidential staffers under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration perform functions equivalent to those of deputy ministers.

Mr Aboagye noted that although the government has appointed 56 ministers, many individuals who would ordinarily have been assigned ministerial or deputy ministerial portfolios are instead serving as presidential staffers at the Jubilee House.

Drawing on his own experience in government, he said the functional authority of presidential staffers is often comparable to that of deputy ministers.

“From my experience as a presidential staffer under former President Akufo-Addo, that position is effectively equivalent to a deputy minister,” he stated.

He therefore argued that any fair assessment of the size and cost of government must go beyond the number of ministers and deputies to include the number and roles of political appointees operating within the Office of the President.
