Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general elections, has called on former constituency and regional executives of the party in the Bono Region to rally behind Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s flagbearership election.

Dr Opoku Prempeh made the appeal on Tuesday morning during a meeting with former NPP executives in Sunyani, stressing that the party needs its experienced members to play a decisive role at this critical stage.

He used the occasion to make a strong case for Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the most qualified, tested and well-positioned candidate among those contesting the flagbearership.

The NPP vice-presidential candidate also appealed for reconciliation within the party, asking for forgiveness on behalf of the leadership for any wrongdoing, neglect or unfair treatment the former executives may have encountered during their time of service.

According to him, the NPP must prioritise unity and healing as it works to rebuild and reposition itself for future electoral success.

Dr Opoku Prempeh emphasised that while internal competition is expected, the party must ultimately close ranks behind a leader capable of uniting the NPP and leading it forward.
