MP for Ayawaso East Naser Toure is dead – Reports
The report indicates that the discussions intensified following the completion of the seven-day post-burial Muslim prayers for the late MP, held at the National Mosque on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
Baba Jamal, whose name has popped up as a possible replacement, polled 525 votes, behind the late Mahama, who polled 675 votes during the 2024 NDC parliamentary primary.
Also, Dr Yakubu Azindow, whose name came up as possible replacement polled 215 votes.
Hajia Kande Majesty, who is the Magajia of the NDC National Zongo Caucus and a former two-term women’s organiser in Ayawaso East, in questioning who could take up the mantle from the late MP, stated that the figures polled by these individuals explain why certain names continue to feature in conversations about succession.
“As Muslims, we accept death as the will of Allah,” she said. “But now the question before us is who can come and do more for the constituency.”
“Jamal came second,” she said. “After that, he did not walk away. He stayed in the community and continued working,” she is quoted to have said.
Reports further stated that beyond the two main contenders, other names are also being mentioned.
