Ghana has reportedly made history in the medical field by delivering the world’s first set of quadruplets from traditional surrogacy.
The four babies – two boys and two girls – were delivered at Walking Egg Medical Infertility Centre on January 13, 2025.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the centre, Dr Nana Yaw Osei, who announced this achievement, indicated that there has been no record of quadruplets being delivered through surrogacy in the world.
“Happy New Year to you all. I’m glad to inform you that Walking Egg Medical Infertility Centre recorded quadruplets today – that’s four babies from one pregnancy. So, we’ve made history.
“This was through intra-uterine insemination (IUI) in Ghana. I know many children have come from IUI. We’ve had quadruplets from IVF, but I’m yet to find out whether there has been any recorded incident of quadruplets from IUI,” he said in a video shared on social media.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after the delivery, Dr Osei said there were no complications, and the babies were healthy.
“The surrogate experienced no major complications. We delivered at 36 weeks as a precaution, and all four babies were reviewed by paediatricians and found to be very healthy,” he is quoted to have said.
