One of the pressing concerns among stakeholders in Ghana’s entertainment industry is the shortage of suitable venues for large-scale events.

In response, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding the country’s events and conference infrastructure to better support the creative arts and tourism sectors.

In an interview on Citi FM on January 13, 2025, Dzifa Gomashie disclosed that plans are underway to develop a 5,000-capacity facility that will accommodate entertainment events as well as international conferences.

“We are pushing for a 5,000 and over capacity space for entertainment and meetings. We are not able to push conferences here because we don’t have the facility,” she stated.

She further noted that the proposed project forms part of an agenda to boost tourism revenue, create employment, and strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness within the global tourism and creative economy.

She also disclosed that government has been in talks with British actor and producer Idris Elba for a project around the Osu Castle. “We are in conversations, but nothing has been formalised yet, it’s still in the pipeline,” she said.
