Coventry City have received a major lift ahead of Saturday’s M69 derby, with Brandon Thomas-Asante edging closer to a long-awaited return after months on the sidelines.

The forward, who has been out since late November 2025, with a hamstring tear, was pictured in full training on Friday, January 16, 2026, as the club shared images from the session at Ryton, a clear sign that his recovery has reached a decisive stage.

Thomas-Asante’s absence has been keenly felt.

Before injury struck, he had been one of Coventry’s standout performers this season, registering 10 goals and three assists in just 17 Championship appearances and establishing himself as the club’s most reliable attacking threat.

His return comes at a crucial moment with Frank Lampard’s side preparing for a high-stakes showdown against Leicester at the CBS Arena on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

While a place in the starting XI may come too soon, the expectation is that Thomas-Asante could make a controlled comeback from the bench, offering pace, movement and a goal threat late in the contest.

Speaking ahead of the game, Lampard confirmed the forward is back in the frame.

“Torpy and Brandon are in contention for tomorrow,” he said.

After nearly two months out, the sight of Thomas-Asante back on the training pitch will excite Coventry fans, who know just how decisive he can be.
