Two persons have been charged before an Adenta Circuit Court for allegedly setting a two-bedroom apartment at Oyarifa, Anointed Down in Accra, on fire.
The accused are an Immigration Officer, Mohammed Issah, and a Jamaican-Canadian national and housewife, Jennifer Mae Tomlinson.
They were before the court presided over by Angela Attachie last Tuesday, charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, namely causing harm and causing unlawful damage to their landlord’s water tank.
Jennifer is facing an additional charge of causing unlawful damage to a building valued at GH¢350,000, belonging to her landlord, Frederick Atogiyire, after allegedly setting it ablaze.
Both accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges in the presence of their lawyers and were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢350,000, with two sureties, to be justified with landed property.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, did not oppose the grant of bail but urged the court to impose conditions that would ensure the accused persons continued to appear in court.
The presiding judge, therefore, directed the second accused, Jennifer, to surrender her passport to the court registry as part of her bail conditions.
The court adjourned the case to February 11, 2026.
Brief background
According to the prosecutor’s amended charge sheet, the complainant, Mr Atogiyire, is a public servant and resident of Oyarifa, Accra, and the landlord of the accused persons.
C/Insp Lanyo stated that Mohammed and Jennifer, who were in a relationship, rented a two-bedroom apartment from Mr Atogiyire in October 2025 for one year.
He added that on December 21, 2025, a misunderstanding arose between Mohammed and Jennifer, during which they set fire to the landlord’s water tank, causing damage.
