Agradaa to Compensate Empress Gifty with GH₵100k over defamation

Under the settlement, which was approved on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Agradaa has agreed to pay Empress Gifty a total of GH₵100,000 in compensation—significantly reduced from the GH₵40 million initially demanded. The amount is intended mainly to cover legal fees and related expenses incurred during the litigation.

As part of the agreement, Agradaa will also issue a public retraction of the defamatory statements and render an unqualified public apology to Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye.

The dispute arose from two separate defamation suits filed by Empress Gifty on May 20, 2025, and June 26, 2025, following publications by Evangelist Asiedua that the musician said had caused serious damage to her reputation.

In her original claims, Empress Gifty sought GH₵40 million in damages for alleged libel and slander, a perpetual injunction to restrain Agradaa from making further defamatory statements, the removal of all related content from social media platforms, and full payment of legal and professional costs.

A statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Empress Gifty’s lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour, confirmed that the settlement terms have been formally adopted by both the Tema Land Court and the Tema Main Court, bringing the two lawsuits to a definitive close.
