NAIMOS says one of its personnel has been shot during a routine anti-galamsey operation

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has disclosed that one of its personnel was shot during a routine anti-galamsey operation.

In a statement issued on January 20, 2026, and signed by NAIMOS Media Relations Officer, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, it noted that the incident occurred in the Bono Region, in a bush along the Subinkuro–Kyeremasu stretch.

According to the statement, the officer was shot during an exchange of gunfire between the NAIMOS task force and armed assailants. The officer sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh and is currently responding to treatment at the St. Matthew Catholic Hospital at Ampenkuro.

“The armed thugs, who were hiding in the bushes, opened fire upon sighting the NAIMOS task force. This led to an exchange of gunfire, during which one NAIMOS personnel sustained a gunshot injury.

“…The injured officer was swiftly rushed to the St. Matthew Catholic Hospital at Ampenkuro, where he is currently responding to treatment,” the statement said.

It further noted that one of the assailants who opened fire on the task force was shot dead during the exchange.

“…Meanwhile, one of the assailants who opened fire on the NAIMOS task force was shot dead during the exchange. The deceased, identified as Abuu Ibrahim, was pronounced dead on arrival at the St. Matthew Catholic Hospital,” the statement added.
