New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has sharply criticised the John Mahama-led administration, accusing it of mismanaging critical sectors of the economy one year into its tenure.

Dr. Acheampong made the comments while addressing party delegates on the third day of the second leg of his campaign tour in the Eastern Region. The event brought together delegates from the Atiwa Bloc, which includes Atiwa East, Atiwa West, and Fanteakwa constituencies.

He argued that the government has failed to show clear vision and decisive leadership, particularly in tackling transportation challenges in major cities—a situation he said continues to hamper productivity and disrupt the daily lives of Ghanaians.

Speaking on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Dr. Acheampong said that an NPP government under his leadership would move beyond what he described as the National Democratic Congress’ “cosmetic solutions” and directly compete for political power after he wins the party’s presidential primaries.

He also questioned economic indicators such as the stability of the cedi, claiming they fail to reflect real improvements on the ground, particularly in the transport sector.

“The current situation with the dollar is artificial, and this is clearly reflected in the transport sector. Instead of supporting the private sector to drive the economy, the government is relying on cosmetic measures,” he said.
