Dr Farouk Mahama is a former MP for Yendi
A former Member of Parliament for Yendi MP, Dr Farouk Aliu Mahama, has said Ghana’s unemployment problem cannot be solved by the government alone and that the private sector must play a leading role in creating jobs.
Speaking during a political discussion, he explained that while governments have introduced various job programmes over the years, the scale of unemployment requires stronger collaborations with private businesses to provide sustainable employments.
He referred to initiatives like the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), introduced during the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia administration, stressing that it reflects the experience of Dr Bawumia in tackling job creation.
However, Farouk Mahama noted that Dr Bawumia’s plans for 2028 will be different from what was presented in the NPP’s 2024 manifesto.
According to him, the former vice president is working on a fresh vision, including consultations and committees to shape new ideas.
He added that job creation should be decentralised, with each constituency focusing on its specific needs.
Using Yendi as an example, he said agriculture and related activities could create jobs if they are properly supported through the national budget.
Dr Farouk Mahama also highlighted sectors such as agriculture, mining and industrial development as key areas where private sector involvement could help reduce unemployment.
He urged Ghanaians to wait for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s full policy outline, but stressed that private sector-led growth will be central to future job creation efforts.
