The reconstruction and expansion of the Accra-Tema Motorway is progressing steadily, with about 35% of the work completed, according to Kwabena Bempong, Chief Resident Engineer for the project.

In an interview on Channel One TV on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, he explained that the current phase involves the heaviest construction activities, including concrete works, drainage systems, bridges, and earthworks.

“We have done about 35% of work, but then, as I always say, the works that we are currently doing are mostly the heavy lifting parts. That is the concrete works, which has to do with the drainage, the bridges, and then the earthworks,” he remarked.

The 19.5-kilometer project, which began on January 2, 2024, will expand the motorway to 10 lanes spanning from the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout in Accra to the Tema Roundabout.
