Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Chairman of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, has criticised the Minority for calling for the removal of Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, describing the demand as unfair and misplaced.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, he questioned the basis for holding the minister responsible for decisions taken independently by the government of the United States, particularly in relation to recent immigration visa measures.

Okoe Vanderpuije said decisions on US immigration policy cannot be attributed to the conduct or attitude of Okudzeto Ablakwa, adding that such matters fall entirely within the sovereign authority of the United States government.

“How do we hold our foreign affairs minister responsible for a decision taken by the President of the United States? This is a foreign affairs minister who has been very active on the international front,” he remarked.

He further noted that Okudzeto Ablakwa has played a vital role in strengthening Ghana’s diplomatic engagement, especially in areas focused on job creation and attracting foreign investment.

“All Ghanaians have seen what he is doing, creating job opportunities for our youth in foreign spaces and addressing visa-related issues in this country,” he added.

Okoe Vanderpuije also called for restraint and responsible political discourse, warning against the politicisation of diplomatic matters that could undermine Ghana’s international relations.

The Minority Caucus, at a press conference on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, called for the immediate removal of Okudzeto Ablakwa, citing what it described as repeated diplomatic missteps that have allegedly left Ghana exposed internationally.
