President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government has advanced plans to establish Ghana’s first state-of-the-art cyber and electronic warfare centre in the northern sector, as part of efforts to strengthen national security.

According to him, the facility will be located at the Tamale Air Force Base and will be equipped with advanced surveillance and response capabilities to enhance border security and national defence.

Speaking at the Ghana Armed Forces 2025 end-of-year West African Social Activities (WASSA) on January 23, 2026, President Mahama noted that the government is procuring armoured personnel carriers, drones, and modern communication systems to support the operations of the centre.

He explained that the cyber and electronic warfare centre will be responsible for maintaining continuous surveillance along Ghana’s borders and will also possess assault capabilities in the event of any threat or attack on the country.

“As announced earlier, we are going to set up a cyber and electronic warfare centre at the Tamale Air Force Base. This centre will be responsible for maintaining surveillance of our borders and will also have assault capacity in the event that our country comes under attack,” he said.
