‘I am the only one who can unite NPP for 2028 victory’ – Dr Bryan Acheampong

With one week to go before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) decides its future, presidential hopeful Dr. Bryan Acheampong has intensified his campaign, declaring himself the only candidate with the requisite political glue to heal internal rifts and reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.

Addressing a gathering of delegates in the Asante Akyem enclave during his final tour of the Ashanti Region on Saturday, January 24, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi argued that the party is currently at a crossroads where only a unifier can prevent a total organisational collapse.

Dr. Acheampong’s pitch comes at a time of heightened anxiety within the NPP, following public criticisms from party elders like Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe regarding the party’s “top-down” rebuilding approach.

Dr Acheampong, however, believes his unique position as a bridge between the party’s grassroots and its executive arm makes him the natural successor to the NPP’s legacy.

“I am the only one who can unite the party for 2028,” Dr. Acheampong told the cheering delegates, emphasising that the January 31 primary is not merely about choosing a face for a billboard but selecting a leader capable of managing the party’s diverse and often clashing interests.

His team received a significant boost from Francis Oti Boateng, the former coordinator for the Bryan Acheampong Campaign team in the Asante Akyem area.

Speaking to Adom News on the sidelines of the event, Mr Boateng echoed the candidate’s sentiments, framing the election as an existential choice for the NPP.

While the latest Global Info Analytics poll places Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the lead with 57%, Dr Bryan Acheampong has emerged as a formidable third force, currently projected at 13% of the national vote.

Analysts suggest that his strength lies in the Eastern and Ashanti Regions, where his reputation for strategic planning and operational efficiency resonates with delegates.

As the campaign enters its final 144 hours, the pressure is mounting.

All five candidates, including former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyapong, signed a Peace Pact on Thursday, January 22, promising to remain unified regardless of the outcome.
