New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has firmly dismissed claims by fellow aspirant Kennedy Agyapong that there were errors in the peace pact signed by flagbearer hopefuls on Thursday January 22, 2026.

Speaking in response to a delegate’s enquiry, Kwabena Agyapong stated emphatically that the document contained no errors, contrary to assertions made by Kennedy Agyapong during the signing ceremony.

There was drama at the event, held in full view of the media, when Kennedy Agyapong initially hesitated to sign the document, later claiming he had identified some mistakes in it.

However, Kwabena Agyapong, who also contested the NPP’s 2023 presidential primaries, explained that the document was not new and had been used in previous primaries.

“The document we signed was the same document which was part of our filing forms. It was the same document used during the last primaries,” he said.

According to him, all aspirants were given copies of the document days before the signing ceremony, giving them ample time to review its contents.

“They sent the document to us well ahead of time, and I looked through it thoroughly. It was the same document attached to our filing forms, so there was no error in it,” he added.

Kwabena Agyapong further explained that the decision to publicly sign the pact was deliberate, to ensure transparency and commitment to party unity.

“The feeling this year is that if it is made public and everyone signs it openly for Ghanaians to see, no one can later say they reject the results and are leaving the party,” he noted.

Kennedy Agyapong has since come under criticism from some party supporters, who accuse him of unnecessarily introducing negativity into what was otherwise seen as a positive unity exercise for the NPP.
