Pastor John Apaak is father of Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak

The Apaak family has officially announced funeral arrangements for the late Pastor John Azundem Apaak, who will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

In a statement issued on behalf of the family and signed by Dr Clement Abas Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South and Deputy Minister for Education, the family informed friends, associates, and the general public of the burial plans for the respected clergyman and family patriarch.

Pastor John Azundem Apaak, aged 81, passed away on November 4, 2025, after a lifetime marked by unwavering faith, humility, and service to humanity. Widely regarded as a devoted servant of God, he dedicated several decades of his life to ministry, community development, and the spiritual upbringing of many across the region.

His death has been described as a profound loss not only to his immediate family but also to the Church, the Builsa traditional area, and all who encountered his ministry and leadership. Many remember him as a disciplinarian, mentor, and peace-loving elder whose counsel was widely sought.

Funeral Arrangements Announced

According to the statement, the funeral rites will commence on Saturday, January 31, 2026, with a Lying-in-State and Filing Past ceremony at the GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga from 7:00 am to 8:30 am, allowing family members, church leaders, and sympathisers to pay their last respects.

This will be followed by a Memorial and Burial Service at the same venue at 9:00 am, where tributes will be read and prayers offered in honour of the late pastor’s life and legacy.

Subsequently, the body will be transported to Dorninga in the Builsa South District, where he will be laid to rest at the family house. Mourners attending the burial are expected to dress in black and white, in keeping with family tradition.

Thanksgiving Service

A Thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 8:00 am at the Deeper Life Bible Church, Sawaba, Bolgatanga. The family has indicated that attendees are expected to wear all white as a symbol of celebration of a life well lived.

The Apaak family expressed gratitude to the public for the support and prayers received since the passing of Pastor John Azundem Apaak and prayed for God’s comfort for all mourners.

“May the soul of our father, Pastor John Azundem Apaak, rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
