The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the implementation of revised fees and charges for Ghana Card registration and related services, effective Monday, February 2, 2026, following parliamentary approval.

In a press release dated January 26, 2026, the Authority said the new fees are in line with the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Regulations, 2025 (L.I. 2512), which were passed by Parliament in November 2025 under the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2022 (Act 1080).

According to the NIA, the adjustment follows a comprehensive review of operational costs, noting that the last fee structure was approved in 2023 based on 2022 cost assumptions. Since then, the Authority has absorbed rising expenses related to technology licensing, cybersecurity services, utilities, logistics, and personnel without corresponding fee increases.

“The Ghana Card has evolved into critical national infrastructure, and its long-term sustainability requires periodic, modest fee realignment,” the statement said.

Revised Fees at District Offices

Under the new structure, first-time registration at NIA District Offices remains free for persons below 25 years, while individuals aged 25 years and above will pay GH¢30. Card replacement and nationality updates at district offices will attract a fee of GH¢200, while card renewal will cost GH¢150. Record updates without card replacement will remain free.

Premium Centre Charges

At NIA Premium Centres, first-time registration, card renewal, nationality updates, and record updates with card replacement will each cost GH¢410, while card replacement alone will cost GH¢520. Record updates without card replacement at premium centres will attract a fee of GH¢165.

Fees for Foreign Nationals

The revised fees also apply to services under the Foreign Identification Management System (FIMS). First-time registration and nationality updates for foreigners will cost the cedi equivalent of USD120, while annual card renewal and replacement will cost the cedi equivalent of USD78. Multiple-year renewals will be charged at USD75 per annum, with record updates without card replacement remaining free.

The NIA assured the public that the revised fees will be applied transparently and responsibly, stressing that the adjustments are aimed at strengthening the national identity system to support governance, service delivery, financial inclusion, and national development.
