Social media personality and entrepreneur Aba Martin, widely known as Aba Dope, has claimed to be the originator of the “settings” trend on Snapchat.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Aba Dope recounted that she joined Snapchat around 2015 while she was in nursing school, a period when the platform was regarded as the dominant social media app.
She explained that in her early days on the app, she engaged in staged activities to impress her followers. According to her, she would sometimes sit in someone else’s car and record videos from angles that made it appear she was the one driving, even though that was not the case.
“How I began as Aba Dope? I started on Snapchat. At that time, it wasn’t about all those other apps. When I was in nursing school around 2015, I downloaded Snapchat, and we were just posting all the time. I started ‘settings’ on Snapchat. I could go and sit in somebody’s car and place my hand on the steering wheel as though I was the one driving, but I was never caught,” she said.
Aba Dope also opened up about undergoing liposuction as part of her efforts to achieve her desired body shape, revealing that she traveled to Nigeria to undergo the procedure.
Touching on public perceptions of cosmetic enhancement, particularly Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), she argued that such procedures are often unfairly stigmatized. According to her, cosmetic surgery is not new and has long been used to remove excess fat and enhance body features.
