Fast-rising artiste Safo Newman, who gained widespread attention with his hit song “Akokoa,” has clarified public misconceptions surrounding a supposed remix of the track featuring rapper Sarkodie.
Speaking in an interview on YFM Kumasi, Safo Newman explained that while Sarkodie did not officially feature on the song, the award-winning rapper played a role in promoting it, which later led to the confusion.
According to Safo Newman, Sarkodie was among a few industry figures who helped hype “Akokoa.” However, an unidentified individual later took the original song and inserted one of Sarkodie’s old rap verses, presenting it as though it were an official remix.
“Sarkodie was one of those who joined in promoting the song, and someone created a remix version of it with one of Sarkodie’s old raps. Up till now, people think it was an actual remix. When they see me, they say, ‘This is the guy who did a song with Sarkodie.’ Officially, there was no remix with Sarkodie,” he explained.
He further revealed that no Ghanaian artiste approached him for an official remix of the song, noting that many believed the record was best left in its original form.
“No artiste approached me for a remix of ‘Akokoa.’ I think in their view, the song should remain the way it is. I even met Amerado, and he told me the song should be kept in its original state,” Safo Newman said.
When asked whether he personally considered doing a remix, the artiste disclosed that his advisory team shared the same view.
“I also have a circle of advisors who suggested I keep it the same way,” he added.
