The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has renewed his call on the youth to take advantage of the National Apprentice Programme (NAP) and acquire hands-on skills to support the government’s‘ Reset Agenda’.
He said the Reset Agenda focuses on inclusivity and institutional renewal and includes various infrastructure development programmes that require artisanal skills.
Mr Gunu said this when he presented 100 bags of cement to the people of Ho-Hliha to support their community centre project.
The donation was in fulfilment of a campaign promise by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before the December 2024 election.
The community centre project is expected to take off in March this year.
He said the NAP would cost the apprentice nothing, and the government would provide the tools needed for the apprentice’s chosen vocation.
Further, graduates of the programme would receive nationally recognised certification and smooth pathways to employment or self-employment in priority sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, ICT, fashion, construction, renewable energy, and traditional crafts, said the regional minister.
“This is a major initiative to address youth unemployment, close the skills gap and promote economic growth across the country,” he added.
MCE
The Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Stephen Adom, in an address, commended the people of Ho-Hliha for their self-help spirit and gave an assurance that the assembly would throw its weight behind the project to ensure its early completion.
“The assembly will commit resources and zeal to this project to ensure it is executed up to the highest standard,” Mr Adom affirmed.
Regent
Receiving the items, the Regent of Ho-Hliha, Moses Kley, expressed gratitude to the regional minister for the gesture, saying it was very touching.
“This is reassuring of the NDC’s uncompromising stance to keep its word with the people,” he said.
The regent gave an assurance that the people of Ho-Hliha would stand firmly behind the assembly and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council in all nation-building efforts.
“That means we will always remain united and uphold the peace,” he said.
