Police intercepts vehicle in drug bust on Accra-Aflao Road

The Volta Regional Police Command has announced a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking after intercepting a vehicle carrying suspected narcotic substances along the Accra-Aflao highway on Wednesday, January 21.

According to press statement issued on January 22, a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation, officers stopped a black Liberty Jeep with registration number FK692KF near Kpotame, close to Sogakorpe.

The driver, identified as Charles Adenkule, a 46-year-old Nigerian national, was arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of ten parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, each weighing approximately one kilogram.

The estimated street value of the seized drugs is GH¢1,032,650. In addition, around half a kilogram of compressed dried leaves, believed to be Indian hemp, was discovered concealed behind the inner lining of the vehicle’s boot.

“A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of ten (10) parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine, each weighing approximately one kilogram. The estimated street value of the seized substances is GH¢1,032,650.00,” the statement read.

The operation followed intelligence received by the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr Wisdom Akorli, from the Director of the Police Intelligence Unit.

He deployed a combined team comprising personnel from the Police Intelligence Department (PID), the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), and the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD).

DCOP Akorli commended the arresting officers for their professionalism, diligence, and integrity, particularly noting their refusal to entertain any attempts at an amicable settlement.

“The Regional Police Commander, DCOP/Mr. Wisdom Akorli who received the intelligence through the director police intelligence unit, deployed a combined team of personnel from the police intelligence (PID), Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), and the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) into action.”

The seized substances are set to be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory for detailed examination and analysis.
