Oliver Barker-Vormawor, one of the attorneys representing troubled businessman and socialite Abu Trica of Swedru, has stated that his client has been released from police custody following his detention on Thursday, December 11, 2025, for alleged wire fraud offenses. On Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Ghana, Abu Trica—real name Frederick Kumi, also known as Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng—was taken into custody in a combined operation by the FBI and Ghanaian security forces. He faces up to 20 years in prison on accusations of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and a forfeiture provision, according to an unsealed US Justice Department indictment.
