Dr Stephen Amoah is the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso
The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso and former Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr Stephen Amoah, has strongly denied claims that he considers himself the “5th best person in the world” in finance and economics.
The clarification came during an interview on January 25, 2026, during which he used the opportunity to clarify the widely circulated misinterpretation of what he had stated at an earlier date.
“I never said I was the 5th best person in the world when it comes to finance and economics!” Dr Amoah asserted.
He emphasised that his statement from the interview that was misinterpreted, was rather in reference to his discussion of the evolution of his model in global economics, and not on his personal ranking.
“People really misinterpret the kind of person I am, and it helps me. It doesn’t give them a clue about what I’m doing. By the time they realise, I’m far ahead.
“What I said was that my model or economic framework is the fifth iteration, building on the research of Sharpe, Markowitz, and others,” he stated.
He further stated, “I never claimed to be the 5th best person in the world when it comes to finance and economics!”
Dr Amoah’s clarification centered on his work concerning existing economic models, which he said were developed based on research from 1964 and 1976 and had been reviewed by professors from Canada, Pakistan, and Ghana.
He also stated that his comments were intended to reference the evolution of his financial model, and not to brag about a personal ranking.
