Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is a former Vice President of Ghana
The Member of Parliament for Damongo and former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reward former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s long-standing dedication and sacrifice by selecting him as the party’s next flagbearer.
According to the former Lands Minister, Dr Bawumia has consistently placed the interests of the NPP above his personal and professional ambitions, a commitment he believes merits recognition through the party’s leadership slot.
He made the appeal while accompanying Dr Bawumia and members of his campaign team during an engagement with party delegates in the Bantama Constituency, as the former Vice President seeks the NPP flagbearer position.
The Damongo MP noted that Dr Bawumia made significant personal sacrifices, including stepping away from a promising international career, to serve the party.
He recalled that during his time at the Bank of Ghana, Dr Bawumia could have pursued lucrative opportunities abroad but instead resigned to fully dedicate himself to the NPP.
He further emphasised that Dr Bawumia has demonstrated unwavering loyalty and commitment to the party over the years, even in the face of intense criticism and public attacks.
“Despite the level of vilification he has endured, Dr Bawumia has remained disciplined, focused and committed to the ideals of the party,” Jinapor said.
Addressing delegates in Bantama, the Damongo MP urged them to critically assess Dr Bawumia’s leadership qualities including his vision, humility, unifying approach and commitment to national development and to rally behind him as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
